frequently asked questions
contract
how do i secure my date?
no date is guaranteed without a deposit and a signed contract. all bookings and details are handled via email to keep all communication in one place.
can i add add services to the contract after its been signed?
you can always add services to the contract - just send us an email letting us know who you are adding and what services they’re requesting.
can i remove services from the contract after its been signed?
we ask that you stick to the contracted amount of services that we agreed on when the contract was signed. payment is required for all services listed on the contract, whether or not they are fulfilled. we obviously don’t want to have to do this - so we remind our clients to put down a definite number of services and add on as the date gets closer.
what if i haven’t booked all of my vendors yet?
leave that space blank - we would love to send some recommendations your way, just ask us!
consultation
is a hair and makeup consultation necessary?
it’s your personal preference, but we recommend having a consultation as a time for us to meet and establish a relationship before your wedding day and most importantly, see your vision come to life. more often than not, after seeing the hair + makeup look you were envisioning, adjustments will arise - this is totally normal and our time together allows for you to play around and figure out what you love before committing to a look for your wedding day.
when should i book a consultation?
this is up to you! you are welcome to schedule a trial before signing paperwork, however we find that most brides sign a contract before coming to see us to assure their date is secured. we usually have them in for a consult 4-6 months before their wedding. we try to book these appointments outside of wedding season (november - march) as our availability is very limited between the months of april-october. we reserve most mondays + tuesdays year round for these appointments, but try to be as flexible as possible.
how many styles/looks can i try during an appointment?
the short answer is 2. we find that many of our brides come to us between going up or down with their hair — no problem! we can start with a down style to see how you like that and then go up with it, take pictures and give you time to deliberate. same goes for makeup - we can start with a lighter look and then vamp it up to something a little more dramatic.
i changed my mind and want an additional consultation.
no problem - you’re always welcome to come back in! a consultation fee will apply OR - if you’ve had a consultation and changed your mind, as long as you feel comfortable with it - we’re confident that we can nail it on the big day.
can i bring my friends and family?
absolutely, the more the merrier! but if we had to put a number on it, we’d say keep it to 4 or less due to the size of our studio.
how do i need to prepare? - hair
come with an idea of what you’d like to see, and if you’re not sure - have an idea of what you don’t like. we’re able to work with clean or ‘dirty’ hair. it’s not mandatory that you arrive with day old hair - and if you’re someone who knows they would feel better with clean hair on your wedding day we have products to make any look work. the important part is that your hair should be its natural texture or blow dried. if your hair has had a direct heat source applied to it previous to seeing us (you’ve straightened or curled it with an iron) your hair won't hold a curl well and won't give you a good idea of how it could look.
how do I need to prepare? - makeup
skin prep is important - the makeup can only look as good as your skin is. make sure to drink plenty of water regularly and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. come with a clean, moisturized face and inspiration photos. it’s also helpful to know if there is anything in particular that you don’t like so that can be avoided during your application. most important - let us know if you have any sensitivities before we begin!
how long does a consultation usually take?
plan for a 1.5 hour appointment. when you arrive we will sit down and chat a bit about what you’re looking to do and answer any questions you might have before hand. you’ll have your hair and makeup done simultaneously as to make best use of time. we’ll make any adjustments you’d like to see before taking photos for our records (which we will send you too!).
payment
what is the deposit amount?
we require a 50% deposit to secure a date with our team.
how do i make payments?
payments can be made online or sent by check - we will give you the details + address!
how will i know how much i owe?
we will put together a balance sheet reflecting the services listed on your contract for your records. it will break down all of your payment information (i.e. travel, deposit, and requested services).
how do i pay you the day of?
all payments are handled beforehand (so you don’t have to worry about a thing the day of!). we will send a balance sheet reflecting your final payment along with a link to pay online.
how much do you charge for travel?
the travel fee will be calculated on the distance from our studio to the address where you’ll be getting ready on the day of your wedding. the fee is .60 per mile round trip, per artist.
timing
how does timing for the day of work?
we make our timeline based on your ready by time and the number of services anticipated. we like to add a little padding to the timeline just in case so we will generally schedule touch ups to be completed 30 min before the stated ready by time.
how long does it take you to complete a service?
on a wedding day - we schedule services to be completed between 30 and 40 min. if we have enough time we will schedule 40 min per person per service, but if the timeline is tighter we will schedule 30 min per service.
i don’t know the exact timing yet, is that okay?
not to worry - we don’t create your timeline until about 1-2 weeks before your date. we like to allow some time for all of your day of details to be finalized before we start planning out your morning.
can timing be adjusted?
more than likely yes! but if we’re worried about having you ready on time with a proposed time change, we may urge you to stick with the original timeline.
hair
how should i arrive for my hair service on the day of my wedding?
the same as your trial! we ask that your hair is it's natural texture (or blown out) but free of products - don't worry, we've got that covered! if you have curly hair and feel better having it tamed, feel free to use curl cream or anti-frizz serum, but please avoid any hard hold gel or hairspray that can affect the overall styling. as listed above, it can be freshly washed or second day hair - whichever makes you feel most comfortable! we can work with anything.
i want to use extensions - how do i go about getting them?
since everyone has a very different hair color, style and length we do not supply the hair extensions. if you are interested in purchasing them to add to your style, we suggest doing so before your consultation so you can get an idea of how everything will look on your wedding day. after purchasing, the bundle will typically be one length - we recommend bringing them to your usual hair stylist to get them trimmed, layered, colored, etc. as we do not provide this service in the studio or onsite. we’ve listed our favorites below - but you can always reach out if you have any questions.
do you provide any accessories or flowers?
we do not provide any accessories or flowers for your hair styles. if you are interested in having real flowers in your hair, your best bet is to gather a bit of inspiration and contact your florist. they will customize a flower crown, comb or provide a few flowers to use on your wedding day. if you are looking for a hair comb or accessory, we carry a line in our shop that you are welcome to try, and order if you find one that you love. other options - etsy or your local wedding boutique! if you aren't sure, we can always give suggestions at your trial as to which type of hair accessory will work best with your style.
should my girls come with photos?
yes - we love inspiration photos. it helps to keep everyone on the same page and have clear communication so we can achieve what your bridesmaids are envisioning. if you are looking for inspiration, check out our instagram or pinterest.
makeup
what is airbrush foundation and why should i use it on on my wedding day?
airbrush foundation is what we typically suggest using for bridal. it gives you 16+ hours of wear, is waterproof, sweat proof and smudge proof which is perfect for your long day in the spotlight. it works by use of a thin specially formulated makeup which is applied via an airbrush gun, a fine mist covers the skin and gives the appearance of a flawless finish. with that being said, traditional foundations are just as amazing. your artist will determine which foundation they think will be best after reviewing the look you are going for and your skin type.
do you provide strip lashes or individual lashes?
both are stocked in our kits so you have the option to choose whichever you feel completes your look the best.
what lash glue do you use?
we swear by revlon precision lash glue. while its not apt to happen, i would recommend purchasing one of your own to have on hand just in case of a lash emergency. pro tip: apply glue to lash and allow to dry for 30 seconds before applying it to your eye.
what are my eyelash options on my own time?
so glad you asked! we’re all about lash enhancing. besides wearing falsies on your big day you can also augment your lashes using lash growth serums, getting a lift and tint or lash extensions.
how long with my makeup last?
the use of techniques and products that have proven to prolong the wear of your makeup will keep you looking fabulous until you take it off at the end of the night!
what makeup brands do you use?
we use professional and premium grade makeup products in brands such as: temptu, mac, bobbi brown, senna, rmca, nars, benefit, inglot, kevin aucoin, chanel, urban decay, and makeup forever to name a handful!
do you need to know how many girls will want false lashes beforehand?
it’s not necessary for everyone to know if they’ll want lashes ahead of time. we leave it up to them to let us know the day of. we find a lot of ladies aren’t sure but once they see them on everyone else - they decide to add them onto their service as well.
